Towards More Inclusive Employment Practice

Towards more inclusive employment practice

This course is designed to encourage and advise organisations who have recognised the benefits of building an inclusive workforce. We will promote awareness of individual support needs and how the organisation might best meet them.

Recent legislation has recognised the responsibility to develop more inclusive employment practices in order to encourage those currently under-represented in the workplace to be able to make their contribution.

This one day course will provide encouragement, advice and information to organisations determined to broaden the scope of their recruitment practices and provide the necessary support to enable individuals to feel welcome and valued.

We will explore some obstacles to more inclusive working practice. We will consider the support needs of potential employees with physical disabilities, learning disabilities and learning difficulties, together with the needs of those for whom English is not the first language.

We will encourage the creation of support systems, contracts and review procedures to facilitate the development of a more inclusive, diverse, enthusiastic and committed workforce.

The day will be highly interactive and participants will be invited to reflect on their own experiences as employees and to explore personal values and potential barriers to inclusion. The training works best when a good cross-section of the organisation is able to participate together (i.e. as wide a range as possible of employees, supervisors, managers, directors).
