Epilepsy Awareness

This one day course is designed to raise awareness and establish understanding of epilepsy and develop confident and effective care practice.

The course will explore definitions, causes, diagnosis, triggers and responses to epilepsy.  We will identify different types of seizures and develop an understanding of pre-disposing factors.  We will be clear about what to do and what not to do to support someone during and after a seizure.  We will identify a range of medication used to treat epilepsy (including rectal diazepam) and procedures for their administration according to The Joint Epilepsy Council’s guidelines.  We will highlight the importance of up-to-date care plans, risk assessment, legal responsibilities, accurate record keeping, agreed policies and procedures and effective communication.
