Celebrating Gender Differences

Celebrating Gender Differences

An opportunity to develop understanding of the ways in which gender affects identity, self-worth, belonging and contribution to organisations, groups and families so that we can begin to celebrate differences and play to each other's strengths.

We want to encourage "the left brain to talk to the right brain" and vice versa. We want to recognise the value of creativity and spontaneity along with knowledge and understanding.

Through key texts/handouts, group exercises and discussion, a group of women will be supported by a female facilitator to share something of their life experience, exploring notions of identity, ambition, self-worth, confidence, commitment, satisfaction and belonging. Meanwhile a group of men will be doing something similar, supported by a male facilitator.
The day will close with an open forum where each group will be invited to tell the other "this is what we want you to know (and we don't think you do at the moment) about what it's like for us".

Celebrating Gender Differences Aim

  • To promote a shared understanding of the ways gender affects our values, behaviours, perceptions, responses, and an appreciation of the impact we have on each other.

Celebrating Gender Differences Objectives

  • To establish more effective communication.
  • To increase understanding and to begin to more easily gain access to each other's "frame of reference".
  • To play to each other's strengths.

  • To celebrate individual differences.
  • To learn from each other's different experiences.
